We’ve been empowering communities to live healthier lives for nearly 20 years.

Our story began in Birmingham, rooted in a belief that everyone deserves access to the tools and support needed to live a healthier life. Over the years, we’ve grown from a small local service into a trusted charity and health partner working nationally.

  • 2007: Where it all started

Health Exchange was founded as a Community Interest Company (CIC), commissioned by the Primary Care Trust to deliver health prevention services in Birmingham. From day one, we focused on reducing health inequalities and supporting people to take control of their wellbeing.

  • 2016: Expanding our reach

Living Well Taking Control (LWTC) was launched as a Limited Liability Partnership, helping to deliver behaviour change programmes as part of the National Diabetes Prevention Programme. Focused on reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, it quickly became a vital part of our wider mission.

  • 2020: Becoming a charity

After years of local and regional impact, Health Exchange registered as a charity to deepen its commitment to tackling health inequalities and reaching more communities across the UK.

  • 2022: Strengthening our impact

To align with our charitable aims and ensure long-term sustainability, LWTC became our trading subsidiary: Living Well Taking Control – Health Exchange Ltd. This move allows us to grow our impact while remaining rooted in evidence-based, person-centred care.

From our early days to today, our mission has remained the same: to help people live longer, healthier lives. We’re proud of our story and the best part is, we’re just getting started.
