About the project
We are working with Birmingham City Council to gather insight from residents about what wellbeing means to different communities across Birmingham.
The insights gathered will help shape a new wellbeing resource based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing, including real stories and practical examples from Birmingham residents.
We want this resource to reflect the diversity, cultures and experiences of the people who live in Birmingham.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing
The Five Ways to Wellbeing are simple actions people can take in their everyday lives to support their wellbeing.
- Connect – spending time with family, friends and communities
- Be Active – moving your body in ways that work for you
- Take Notice – being aware of the present moment and the world around you
- Keep Learning – trying new things and developing skills
- Give – helping others or contributing to your community
During this project we want to understand how people across Birmingham experience these ideas in their own lives and communities.
Your insights will help us create examples that feel relevant, inclusive and meaningful for people living in Birmingham.

Community conversations
We will also hold informal conversations in community settings across Birmingham.

You’ll also play a key part in how the Creating a Mentally Healthy City strategy is developed and put into action.
Your perspective could:
- Help someone else discover new ways to support their wellbeing
- Highlight activities or services that make a difference locally
- Ensure different communities are represented
- Help shape a resource that supports people across Birmingham
Your voice can help make sure the final resource truly reflects the people and communities that make Birmingham what it is.

For community organisations
Community organisations play an important role in helping us reach people across Birmingham.
The most helpful thing organisations can do is nominate 2–3 people from your network who may be interested in taking part in a workshop or session. You can also help by sharing the project with your members or communities.
We have created a set of materials to support engagement, including a printable poster, digital flyer, social media graphics and partner outreach toolkit. Please contact us and we’ll send you everything you need.
